hi and thank you, I am working on a front pump from a 97 4L60E, when i seperated the front pump i found a check bal and capsule laying loose inside a cavity. If you look at the ATSG manual it is part number 237, There are 2 of them. The one that is out and damaged is the one next to the boost valve assembly, i have the ball assemble back in, but it doesnt seal very well.. I beleieve thisis for the TCC? if this doesnt seal very well what will happen?

I cant answer your question. Seems like a no-brainer. If the checkball doesn't seal replace it.
How are you testing its sealing ability? Most circuits in auto transmissions have "some" amount of leakage built into the circuit.
I would just replace it. I've seen guys that will smack the ball into the seat to "re-seat" it to make it seal better. Make sure that you "stake" the capsule in to make sure it doesn't come out again.
Note: your a lucky one. Usually when these come out the rebuilder takes the pump apart so fast that the peice just falls out, and is lost so it goes back together with the capsule missing and then there is repeat failure.

thanks, i been looking for a new ball and capsule. I tried smacking it, and i did get it to seal better.. I compared it with the other ball and capsule using brake cleaner.. and well the sealed realy good but yhe other no so well.. if this was my trans i would go a head and slap it in.. I will have to call trans star i guess..
