Anyone tried EFILive V4 on the OBD1 vehicles?
Hey all,
I used to work at Snap-on where I designed and developed automotive scanners (Modis, Ethos, MT2500, etc). So, I'm a car computer nut so to speak.. I learned a lot about computer systems in cars/trucks there.
Anyway, I came across a program called 'EFILive V4'. My ETHOS scanner shows PIDS and such, but it doesn't really record data. EFILive does and you can even play it back.
Here is a screenshot of the gauge screen, which is customizable:
Pretty neat eh? It really came in handy when I was trying to diagnose a problem.
If you want to know how to create an ALDL-PC interface, here is a schematic:
Pretty simple really. If there is any interest in this I can write a bit more about it.
You can get EFILive from http://efilive.com. Its $179, but you can try it for free.

This is great! I need to get a copy of this, and the cable it will be worth it!

Yep, used it a few times playing with my 1.5OBDII Bonneville. Except I used the other style ALDL connector. It used the MAX232 chip.
Now that we are on the subject, anyone know where I can find plans or a kit to build a EEPROM reprogrammer? I'd really like to make changes to my Bonneville PCM.

You're best off buying one, unless you have some pretty good electronic skill (I assume you might).
http://www.jameco.com might find you a programmer
Which chip is it? Maybe you can substitute a flash part as well.
If you need some design ideas, I can look around and see what I can find. Let me know if you are good at prototyping boards, wirewrap, etc. If not, I'll see what I can find.

No, they only have the pic programmer. I need a eeprom programmer. I had seen one site that specialized in this type of application, but they wanted somewhere around $300 for the programmer. Thats a bit steep considering what comes inside one of these things. I just need something that can read and write 27C256 eeproms.
