Auto transmission issue
Well like a goober I got mad and stomped the gas on my 97 blazer with over 200k this evening and you guessed it, tranny problems. It looks like I can make it from 0 to 35 without trouble then I have to max out the rpm and let go of the gas for the next gear to engage. Also reverse is completely gone. I've peeked over the forum and know there is a good chance it could be a sun shell issue but what are the other likely issues? Solenoid? Stripped gear? The auto equivilent of the clutch whatever that is. Seriously I don't know jack about cars but I need to know enough so I can get a real idea of what the fix may cost me before blowing money that could go into a downpayment on a used vehicle. Please help.
I think I've got a handle on what's going on. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I think what I've done is stripped out 2nd gear which is also my reverse gear. If it's only the one gear and not the ever all shifting mechanisims then does anybody know if that will be an easier/cheaper repair?
If 4th gear is also gone, then the reaction sun shell has failed. It is a fairly inexpensive component, however the transmission must be removed from the vehicle and almost completely gutted to replace it.
