Default Automatic Standard Transmission Swap

I have a 79 Blazer 4wd with a 3 speed manual transmission. I also have a 76 chevy pickup with an automatic transmission that I can use as a doner. I would like the Blazer to be an automatic.

Can I install the automatic without too much modification>

Thanks
Mike

It would help if you specified what type of transmission it is. If it is the original in '76 it should be a TH350. I believe all those need are a vacuum signal off the engine for shift points. If it has been converted to a TH700r4 you will need the TV cable that runs up to the throttle linkage as a signal for shifting(very critical component).

In either case you would need a transmission oil cooler (a standalone that goes in front of the radiator is fine), as well as a cable and shifter.

More than likely the cross member will mount in a different point for the automatic vs. the manual so be prepared for some modification there as well. Of course the transmission can come with electrical or cable driven speedometers, so that is something you will need to account for as well.

Since it's a 4x4, you'll also need to look into the differences in transfer cases. They are close enough that the bolt patterns would probably be the same.
