Default Can I use a 92 block with 02 heads?(02BLAZER4.3}

I have a 2002 BLazer with a cracked block. I have a good 92-ish Silverado engine. I know my 02 intake won’t fit and I think I would need to relocate knock sensor. Can I swap in the 92 block with 02 heads & intake? Would the 92 block be compatible with 02 heads and trans? Any other issues?

No crank sensor on 92 crankshaft among many other issues. Better to get the right engine.

Thanks, Les. I had this older engine lying around and more time than money, this year and was hoping I could make it work. I think I can modify a newer t.c. cover (w/ crank sensor) to fit over dowel pins. These other issues you mentioned.... are they deal-breakers?

I think the 2001 oil pan and timing cover will most likely not fit right on the older block. Different number of bolts IIRC in each. I'm quite sure timing gears and chain are quite different on 2001, so don't know how the crank sensor will work out in any case with old style timing gears.

Starter and trans bolts are metric on later engine. Probably the 2001 top end will bolt on the old block, except for the knock sensor. I know that oil pump pickup on 2001 is different size tube and depth, but probably 2001 oil pump and pickup will work on the old block if you can get the 2001 oil pan to fit.

1992 used two different blocks. One with balance shaft (had CFI) and one without (had TBI). http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2000...new-chevy-262/

Some had 10-bolt front covers and some had 6-bolt front covers - some have wide flanges for the front cover and these are needed for the plastic timing covers or they will leak. There are some other differences noted in the article.

Crank sensor reluctor in 2001 sits on a machined step in the crank snout.

You may or may not have issues with push rod length from short vs long lifters.

I suppose you will need to decide it any of these things are deal breakers.
