Default Check Engine Light- diagnostic interface not functioning, new fuel pump

Hi. This is my first post and I am really impressed with this forum! I am looking forward to becoming an active part.

So I installed a new Airtex fuel pump in my 1998 s10 LS blazer on Sunday. Drove it around a little yetsterday and then put 90 miles on it today and got a check engine light. I brought it to autozone and their diagnostic interface could not find my car when plugged in (they tested it on another car to make sure it was not their problem). After trying that, I noticed another light on the dash which read "security". This light dissapeared after I restarted the car.

I have couple questions:

1. I notice a high pitched constant sound coming from the fuel pump when the car is running from the outside of the car (I cannot hear it in the car). I never noticed this noise before. Is it normal for new fuel pumps to be louder? Could this problem be related to the engine check light?

2. How would you address the whole diagnostic interface problem? I cannot find out what code the thing is throwing without plugging it in...

To put things is perspective, the engine just turned over 123,000 miles (like 30 miles ago or so) and that is approx. when the light went on. Is this perhaps a programmed occurence? While trouble shooting for the fuel pump, I did take the air filter housing apart (and cleaned the large butterfly valve on top of the air intake that leads into the engine on top there). MY car also has some noise coming from the muffler as well (my next project).

Any insight would be appreciated.

thanks!

Check the CIG fuse. I bet it is blown which would be why Autozone could not read your codes.

Airtex pumps are known to be junk off the shelf...they have a high failure/return rate.

No, I don't think the high-pitched noise from the new pump is normal, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with the code...
