I have some oil leaks in my 98, I take it that it cost a good bit to actuallly fix them. I'm in college and need my truck to last at least two more years but i cant afford hundreds of dollars for oil leaks , I am thinking of added some of those stop leak products like barrs/blue devil. I know I can just add a quart of oil when it gets low, but im also tired of leaking oil on peoples driveways.
I know its probably a temporary fix until the seal gap widens, then I guess you add more stop leak. Do you think it really actually hurts the motor? Anyone had luck with it? How much have your spend to actually fix leaks?

Do you know where your leaks are? Leaks associated with the oil cooler/remote filter lines are not too expensive if you do the work yourself. It is annoying to work on them due to the tight confines under the engine.
On my 92 I had the o-ring at the adapter where the oil lines go into the engine block catastrophically fail with LOTs of oil leaking out. I never endangered the engine but a drive over 20 miles was out of the question. If your leak is from there then stop leak will not help.
Most people don't like the oil stop-leak products. They are a short term fix but I'll let others who know more chime in on the pro/cons of using them.

Labor costs add up quickly. Many repairs are cheaper for you to buy a tool or two and do the work yourself than it is to pay a shop. Who's doing the wrenching? I'm not a fan of stop leak in a bottle.
