Default Engine swap 96-98

so i found a 98 blazer in great condition on craigslist for 400. i am going to buy it but it has a blown up motor. i already have a 96 blazer with a kind of rough body. i got the 96 when my mom passed so my dad never got me my "first car". he agreed to buy me this blazer but i need to swap my engine out of the 96 into the 98. Can you guys help me through this. i have never done this before and im very excited/nervous to do it tho because i really want to learn more about the 4.3 v6 vortec. So i am just warning you guy i might have a ton of question coming your way so please help another blazer rider out.

The engine should be almost identical. With them both out, compare the sensors and their locations. Some things may be slightly different, but I think that most of the differences are in the exhaust on back (O2 sensors).

Since you would likely not be changing the exhaust, why would you want to do such a thing. The O2 sensor is crucial in the operation of your engine... Atleast the upstream ones are.

I just did this same exact poject, but from a 96 to a 99. Look at your coolant temp sensor going into the side of the block. The 99 engine has a 2 wire sensor and the 96 has a 1 wire. Simple fix swap the sensor into the new block before you drop it in so it will work with the wiring harness. That should be your only difference but make sure to check all of your other sensors. Oh yeah if your interchanging engines from 4wd and 2wd blazers check your oil drain plugs they are in different spots. You might have to swap oil pans.
