Happy New Year all...
Maybe some of you may remember but I made a post about a month ago about my 98 Blazer with horrible engine noise. Well it came to the point where it was getting worse and decided to bite the bullet and have a nearby shop swap it out.
I just got the car back yesterday and I have this noise that is coming from the center console area and it is sort of a loud humming. Almost like a belt or something. I brought it back to the shop and showed the noise to the mechanic.
The noise only really happens when you are in an incline with very light throttle.
So I get a call from the mechanic about a hour later and he says, I have the car on the lift and I think the noise is coming from the transfer case. WHAT?!
Prior to this work getting done I never had a noise that came from the center console area.
Can someone kindly explain what parts in the car needed to be disconnected in order for a 4.3L engine to be swapped.
Basically what I'm tryin to figure out is could the mechanic have messed something up while doing the swap? One thing that happened was after the work, I drove about 5 minutes and blew out the oil line because it was hitting the fan. Oil spewwed all over the engine and everything else within the oils reach. Could oil getting into the transfer case cause this?
Any input is appreciated as I paid a pretty penny for the work and would like to have it 100%.
Thanks Again!
Pete

IF the installer screwed up on an oil line, you may have dramatically shortened the life of the "new" motor. Running without oil will eat it up in a hurry. How long did you go before you noticed the oil leak, and shut down the motor? Did you buy the motor from the shop, or, did you supply it? If you got it from the shop, I would seriously consider making them put in another..... (if you did NOT completely lose oil pressure, this may not be an issue, it only takes a couple seconds to fry a bearing, and you may not notice it right away. IF you had really good oil pressure before that, and now, it is significantly lower, you have a problem......) As for the transfer case, the shop probably would not have to touch it to swap the motor. Check the fluid level, and see what it looks like.
How much do you know about the shop? And, how reputable are they??
