Default Fuel odor problem!

Hi all--1st post here. My '96 Blazer 4.3l,4wd has recently had a strange problem. Whenever I fill up the fuel tank, I get a strong odor of gasoline. However, once about a 1/4 has been burned, there is no odor. I have just been filling it to about 1/2 to 1/4 full to avoid the smell. I don't notice any leaks at all either.Any ideas what this could be? Tank, lines? I replaced the fuel filter this month and still get the odor after filling up. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks again!

Maybe the hole is on the top 3/4 of the tank, or, the seal around the top of the tank is gone. Try running it and then looking under there with a flashlight to look for spray.

i have this same problem. i couldnt figure it out for the longest time i brought it to a shop and they said the same thing as nemesis_ss. it might also be the lines because my buddy's blazer had faulty fuel lines (they were cracked) and they would slowly drip.

there is a plastic fuel vent valve on top drivers side of the tank. it is a 90 degree plastic elbow that has a rubber hose connected to it. On mine, the valve elbow cracked and was leaking fumes. I could mainly smell it at a few stoplights right after I filled up. The part was not very expensive, around $20.
