Default Fuel problem

Hey guys,

I drive a 97 4d 4x4 model, and as of right now my truck will not crank. Last week I had been noticing my truck bogging down a bit while driving and then continuing back to normal pace after a few seconds. The fuel pump noise upon key turn also seemed to be a bit droned and slowed down.

I was coming back from work and my truck started to jump, like a really hard backfire. I stopped to get gas before hitting the house and after filling up that was all she wrote. No fuel pump kicking on no nothin. Won't crank up anymore just sits there trying to start.

Is it safe to assume its the pump? Or if its the fuel filter would it have shut off the pump or just fried it? Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight on this!
