Fuel pump modification
#11
years ago i built a 95 s10 pick up truck with a 350 with the mechanical fuel pump on the block, all i did was pull the in the tank pump and hook the mechanical fuel pump up to the return line on the sending unit.
BUT im not quite sure how far that return hose went into the tank. i was always paranoid and never let it drop under a quarter of a tank, but i drove it that way for years til i sold it.
so what you can do for reference is go to autozone or whatever have someone pull the sending unit and look at that return line, if it goes all the way down to the bottom where the fuel pick up is then you are all good to use it, who knows what they changed over the years.
but to do it right you would have to drop the tank and remove the old pump then run a extension hose down to the bottom of the tank with a screen somehow.
also another popular method of hillbillyism is just cut a hole in the floor above the fuel tank if possible then remove it though there.
