General Trann Question
Hey Everyone,
I'm pretty new to mechanical work and need a bit of help identifying a part on my 97 4door blazer.
Last night I noticed I had a tranny leak so I went under and found just about all the bolts on the pan had some fluid on them. I tightened each of the bolts a bit that I could get to but I think I need a new gasket for the pan. We'll see if it still continues to leak.
Anyway, the part I need help on is that, while down there, I noticed the rubber covering of the solenoid attached to the pan by two bolts was broken off at one end. What I would like to know is what is this solenoid and is this rubber covering important. There seemed to be quite a bit of fluid around/in it as well but that may have just been from the leaky pan.

Thanks for responding abig! Here's a picture of the solenoid I'm referring to. Its the black springy looking covering that has broken off on the left side. Let me know if it isnt clear enough or if you need another angle.
Alright. I did some googling on the a shift linkage and found one on ebay. It does look like that but, just for my self satisfaction, the shift linkage is just a cable correct? As in there shouldn't be any fluid leaking from it?
