Default hall effect switch?

2.8 tbi. Just changed plugs, wires, rotor, cap and fuel pump. The truck will crank but instantly dies and back fires like crazy. It won't flash a code so I'm assuming its the hall affect switch, wich I understand is unique to the 2.8 as my 89 doesnt have it. Anyone have an oppinion on this?

Sounds like a timing issue. Have you verified it?

No,I haven't. I wasn't driving it when it started acting up so I can't really say how it started but I don't know if timeing is the issue.

Default yet another backfiring/stahling issue!!!!!

Hello all. I have 1987 2.8 tbi that was bought brand new by my grandfather, and has been handed down to my father and me. Its our work truck and a member of the family. A couple of weeks ago it started running horrible, wanting to stahl. Changed the pump on it and it didn't change. Changed the plugs, didn't change. It'll fire up if you play with the accelerator but when it does it back fires through the throttle body the entire time, few seconds tops, and then cut off. The ECM,distributer cap, rotor, plugs, wires, supposedly injectors, fuel pump, temp sensor and filter is all new and the ignition control module checked out fine today. Naturally with my luck it won't flash any codes other than 12. So I believe it's an issue with something that doesn't report to the ECM,but not quiet sure what. Any ideas on what else could have this issue?

Take a compression check on all the holes.

Default here we go again! please help!!!!

Ok so I have a 1987 2.8 tbi. This truck has been in the family since my grandfather bought it brand new. Its been our farm/work truck and it's more of a family member than anything. It's been tinkered with many times over the years so needless to say there has been some heavy duty rigging done over the course of twenty plus years and I'm now appointed the task of redoing it. There are all sorts of EXTRA wires and harnesses if you know what I mean!!! Well it now wont crank and the injectors will not fire at all. I took the ICM off to get it checked and its fine so my fear is its the hall effect switch. While I was putting it back on I noticed a small black plastic box that resembles a transistor on a mother board. One end was atatched to a wire that plugs into the ICM and the other wasn't attached to anything but looked like it should be! Im going to assume that it's a contributor to my problem and runs in somehow to the hall effect switch.Which to my knowledge is equivalent to a pick up coil or cam sensor. Im pretty sure thats the issue but I know there are people on here smarter than me that can keep me from chasing my tail. Please help!
