the japan event is about to have a effect on me.

well, it was bound to happen, i work for a company that supplies parts to 3 honda america factorys. due to the obvious stoppage of japan-made parts/electronics being shipped to the states, honda is cutting back big time, may eventually stop altogether in the near future. effective tommarrow, marysville (ohio) and canada are going to 4 hr shifts. east liberty ohio plant is still running normal schedule but subject to change at any givin moment (E.L.P. builds the civic, crv, element) im not sure about the alabama or indiana plants, we dont ship there so we didnt get information about them. tommarrow i get 8hrs, thurs 1/2 day, closed fri. next weeks schedule to be announced thurs at lunch. some lines might not be affected much, others drastically, all depends on shipment orders. seems like if for the most part there going to 1/2 days both shifts, why not just cut back to one shift and let those who dont make the cut by senoirity go on unemployment? the way it looks now, we will work just enough to not be elegible for unemployment. im pretty sure i wouldnt make the cut to keep working, ive been there 3 years now, the place has been open for 11, and i just started working on day shift back in december. glad i dont have any outstanding debt, just monthly utilities and lot rent. i probly need to start looking for something new, damn-i didnt want to have to do this again.

i heard the greensburgh indiana honda plant maybe facing the same kind of cuts and other local factories where i have some friends working may also be cutting back just because the electric motors they use for building there parts come from japan this is really going to hurt the whole country

Yup. Half days here too bud! I'm not happy but I work for the distribution company (voith) so as long as theres repair/inventory units, i still work. Plus our supervisors are doing what they can to get us 30 hours minimum. It's sucks big time but japan is making parts at full capacity already. Just a matter of getting the ships in port.

Indiana is officially not doing well, we were unstable here to begin with, most of the factories would hire and fire people like a carny duck shooting booth. Now that this has happened I have heard they are keeping all their good standing employees(or as much as they can) for half days and voluntary lay offs.

We had a full day today and supposed to tomorrow as well. We just do Civics, MDX and (ew) ZDX. on a good day we make 5-10 ZDX. We made 65 today lol Our daily build number is 370 both shifts. Then we get the repair/inventory units to go throught which keeps me there for the whole night.

well, they went with "1-shift only" day shift hours you could sign up for voluntary layoff or wait up until 9 am tommarrow morning to let them know, supposed to hear from h.r. by 4 tommarrow as weather i work or get mandated lay-off. figured i was better off to try and stay, might be enough ahead of me want time off that i get to stay. guess im now waiting on a phone call......
