Heavy coolant leak, rear of engine(?)

Greetings all. Help appreciated.
My 2001 Trail-Blazer has a severe coolant leak. It appears to be coming from the rear of the engine(?). There are no hoses or water fitting in this area (that I can see). The top of the engine is dry and the coolant is pouring out and running down over the transmision. With the large amount of coolant flowing, this is no pin hole. There is some large opening dumping coolant. Of course I can't see the suspect area and don't know what's back there that could fail this way/ All help is appreciated! Thanks.
