Thanks, Big Chilly. Here's a YT vid where he removes a transmission and the attached transfer case in a 4 wheel drive 1998 Sonoma with auto trans. Go to 14.02 and watch the video. The rear trans mount is two studs on a rubber mount. On my 2003, when you remove the skid plate over this area , the two 15 mm nuts which hold the front of the skid plate on are the same two nuts that hold the trans mount on. So when you have that section of the skid plate off, you are ready to jack up the trans and transfer case unit. Place a block of wood under the jack so the Trans. case won't be damaged. Carefully jack up the trans/ trans. case until you have enough room to install that clean pan with the new gasket in place secured with some 13 mm trans pan bolts. Start the 13 mm pan bolts with your fingers and be sure that they are going in straight, not cross threaded. Then start the two 10 mm bolts that do double duty: 1./ they hold the pan on and they 2./ hold the metal bracket for the trans cable shifter in place. Be extra cautious to get them started straight. The most difficult 10 mm bolt that is carefully hidden under the trans shifter can be installed by using a GearWrench in 10 mm. IOW you cannot get a socket on it. Good luck, Jim

When you drop the ATF pan, is a good time to upgrade to a pan with a drain plug and a deep pan. If you are keeping your GM SUV, you will be glad you made the future ATF oil and filter changes so much easier, quicker and cleaner. You will be more likely to change the oil/filter at 30k interval. So the transmission will last longer and it will pay you back for the $50.00 pan investment. Caution: Be sure the deep pan clears the 4 wheel drive skid plate.
