Default intake manifold help

Put new im gaskets in this weekend, the job was done last year by a shop The sealant seal at the right rear manifold where the manifold meets the block was pooring oil out. I believe what happens is that auto repair shops do a good orverall job, but after the work is done oil is put in the engine right after the work, the silicone dosen't have a chance to cure, and is no match for hot oil, thus the leak!! I also made two alignment pins from bolts that are cut to 1-5/8 inches, with a slot cut in the top to accept a screw driver. I put a small amout of elect tape around the top of the boltswhere the manifold will slip over. I put the alignment bolts in the # 1 and 2 Torque sequence locations for the manifold with about 3/4 of a inch sticking out. when you are ready to install the manifold,it drops right in to place, with no worry of displaceing the silicone sealant, simply remove the align bolts and torque to specs! Hope this helps! Mike

Default RE: intake manifold help

The alignment bolts are a good idea for anyone doing this repair. And you are absolutely correct on the sealant at the front and back of the block needing to setup. You should always follow the sealant manufacturers recommended skin & cure times.

If an oil leak were to occur at this location, it should not be a pressurized oil leak but rather just a weeping leak from the oil being splashed around in the lifter valley. If it were a pressurized oil leak, I would suspect the oil pressure sending unit supply tube.

Good advice none the less!
