leadind up to my p1870 code
I just bought a 97 blazer automatic trans.the prior owner had twice the trans fluid as nomal. I drainned it to normal, but not before it started losing power.like i am towing somthing.I'm going to change the filter, and fluids.do you think this will help. I took it to aotozone and the code p1870 came up(trans slipping)I disconected the battery and the check ingine light hasn't come back on.any chance of salvaging my trans.also I'm having fluid come from the trans hose while driving.

Who knows. You really have to go through the diagnostics to figure out what is wrong. The PCM can only tell you that the operating characteristics of the transmission have triggered the CEL. You have to figure out what is causing it. Check the DIY section for an explanation of this trouble code.

I've done some reserch on this, as my dad just had this code on his 99 Z71. The TransGo shift kit appearantly will cure this and save your tranny before it gets worse. Still doing more research but it is something I definitely want to do to my tranny before too much longer.

1870 is usually worn TCC reg valve. Requires boring valve body oversized, and installing oversized TCC reg vavle.
I always do the AFL valve as well, because it causes other problems, especially the dreaded direct clutch failure.
I dont agree that the "shift kit" will fix it. It may advertise that it "reduces" the problem but if the valve body is worn (which they always are, I do a couple a month), then the shift kit is just a patch, that may or maynot work.
