Default My 96 Blazer Transmission Went Out

My transmission went out with almost 146K miles on her. I had it towed to AAMCO Transmission and the next morning they called and said I needed a complete rebuild. They quoted me $2850.00 and they said since I'm a repeat customer they were going to knock off $1000.00 which would make it $1850.00. Does this sound right for a complete rebuild with tork converter and all. They also said that the tranny has never been servcied and they have never seen a 4X4 trans make it to 146K before. I won my 96 Blazer off of EBay back in 02 for $4200.00 and it had 78K on her. The guy I won it from told me then that the tranny been serviced twice since he bought it new. I gave AAMCO the go ahead to rebuild the tranny. I just like to know if $1850.00 is a fair price for a complete rebuild. OH, They also said it will have a 12 month 12,000K warranty. Also I looked on the AutoZone website and they want $1330.00 for a rebuilt tranny. So I guess I am getting an OK deal from AAMCO.

My first rebuild cost a little over a grand with a "friends discount" from the shop. Then when it went out again, it cost another 1100 for upgraded parts.

So, I'd say you are getting a pretty good deal. I'd also ask about the upgraded parts, but then again, I'm apparently a trans-eating-monster or something.

Thanks Guys. No I don't think I want a shift kit in this, I need her to last me another 3 years before I can buy a new car. That would be another 30k miles for me.

Nahhhh I've seen shift kits mess up too many trans in my 58 years. No thanks. AAMCO rebuilt other trans for me and they are still going strong.

Meh, your choice and all, but if it's installed with a rebuilt transmission it'll be fine.

Or has the shift kit installer messed up too many transmissions?
