Default P1870 code

Thanks Brad, I'm fairly sure I didn't damage the shift solenoid. I noticed they were pretty loose, as in they would rotate in their bore easily. When I was working the retainer plug loose for the valve components I removed, my needle nose pliers struck the wiring for the solenoid nearest the valve I was working with. I didn't see any damage or loose wires after examination. It's very possible I caused some sort of damage installing the pan as that's when I experienced trouble getting it passed the crossmember. I feel like I was pretty careful about forcing anything though. I'm curious if I didn't have the filter in all the way & pinched wiring while bolting the pan back on. It's looking like I'm going to have to pull the pan & inspect these components. I greatly appreciate your feedback Brad & I'll be certain to post the remedy once its sorted iout. Thanks!

I forgot to mention. No, I didn't have to remove the valve body as I was fortunate enough to finagle the clip and drop it through the slot once the retainer plug (or whatever that part is called) was removed. I installed it from the bottom after New valve was installed per instruction.

Jeez, I'm not focusing here. Lastly, I didn't unplug either shift solenoid.

Transman304,
I didn't remove any solenoids. I did remove the valve & spring assemblies from the bore directly next to the solenoid you have circled in yellow & replaced them with the Teckpac valve. I can see it may be possible I have damaged one or both of the components circled in red. I definitely didn't apply any excessive force getting the pan in place, but given they're easily damaged, I could see the possibility. What are the components circled in red? If damaged, would they cause what seems to be a loss of first gear? Thank you for your advice!

Yes it would cause your symptoms. Is it setting a trouble code?

No codes we're present relating to the transmission the day after I installed the valve & drove the vehicle roughly 40 miles. I'll have to take a look again tomorrow & report back.

I might be mistaken, but I think you removed the valve and spring from the bore near the PWM solenoid, not the one near the 3-2 downshift solenoid he has circled in yellow.

Something to consider is your boost valve. If it were leaking, couldn't it cause this? Couldn't it also have caused or accelerated the P1870? I'm still researching.

Thanks for your input.
I'm pretty positive I replaced the correct valve.
I don't know if the boost valve is leaking. I can say, I had the classic hard shift from first to second, other than that everything else with the trans functioned great. I know the bore the valve in question was in washes out allowing fluid to pass the valve causing a drop in pressure, when PCM see the pressure drop, it compensates by boosting fluid pressure hence slamming into second gear & causing code P1870. There may be additional defects that can cause the same code, I don't know though.

I have yet to scan the PCM for any possible new codes.
