Default problems starting 01 Jimmy

I am having a problem with my 01 Jimmy, 4.3, When I went to start it the starter was dragging like the battery was dead. I put in a new interstate battery and replaced the starter but it still does it. It clicks a few times and when it finally turns over the clock has to be reset and it sounds like its trying to lock the rear gate.Eventually it will start but I have to let off on the key and hold the gas pedal to the boards a few seconds first. If anyone has any thoughts on the problem I'd love to hear them.
Thank you in advance!

start searching for arcing. sounds like the positive harness for the starter got pinched somewhere.
