question about oil pump

Thumbs down question about oil pump

Hello,
My name is Nathan. I am new to this forum and look forward to talking to all of you. I have a nice 93 blazer that I have done a lot of work to all ready.
Well today some thing new happened to my car. I was driving out in the country and lost all oil pressure. I was told it looked like my oil pump went out on it. This is one thing I have not had to mess with. I would love to know how big of a job I am getting into. If you know how to do this any info would be great. Here is a list of every thing I have done to my blazer so far.
350 mtr and trans
Black and Tan two toned
4X4
2 door.
16 inch tires (with new spare tire mounted inside of the truck)
Stock Aluminum Rims
Power Windows
Power Locks
Electric heated mirrors (brand new)
Tow package (with full light hook up installed, just plug in, flip the switch and tow)
Rear seat drops with a pull of a handle, for more room in the back
All New Shocks all the way around. (Heavy Duty)
New brakes all the way around
New brake lines
New radiator
Tinted windows
New bug guard
Full wrap around push bar

Ok the IFS (independent front suspension) trucks, it can be a challenge. You really have to either jack the motor up a lot or drop the front axle out to get the pan off.

Well that will be fun to do since the blazer is sitting out at a guys house way out in the country. He said I could work on it there if I need to but not sure if he knows how big of a job he is talking about. Well he is a mechanic and offered to help me so guess I will find out after I go back out there. I have to borrow a oil pressure gauge and see if I am getting any pressure first off.

That's what I would suggest first, just be aware that gauge needle is going to jump a little, this is becasue the oil pressure sensor takes and average so it doesn't see the normal little spikes that you will with the handheld guage. Also if the oil pressure is low don't run it very long obviously.

well I went back out to the guys house yesterday. I started up the truck and it ran fine. It looks like this only happens when the oil isn't cold any more. The guy there said it sounded like it had some thing to do with the bearings? I have no idea what he is talking about. Can any of you explaine what it means?

If the oil pressure drops off as the engine warms up, it is likely due to worn bearings. As the bearings wear, the clearances open up. This allows for more flow through the bearing and lowers oil pressure. A band-aid fix would be to run thicker oil. The proper fix would be to replace the bearings.

Well I found out it was the bearings that needed fixed. The guy who's house the car broke down at knows all about this and is going to help me fix it the right way. I am getting ready to go buy all the parts today.

Getting it fixed before more damage occurs is a good idea! Glad you found someone close that can help! Let us know how things work out.
