Ready to set it ablaze
98 gmc jimmy Starter issues. I've tried everything at this point. About a week ago I put a new flexplate and starter on my 4.3 vortec because the previous ones were shot. It started up twice and now it just doesn't. I've tried shimming it, smacking it, adjusting it, another new starter, new starter wires, new ground to the passenger head, and everything man. I don't know if the starter is too close, or the bendix isn't engaging fully (with two new starters) or what. Battery's fully charged and the starter engages, but it doesn't fully engage the flexplate. I'm lost man
If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I'm about to throw it over a cliff.

What is the battery voltage at rest and what is it with the ignition key in the start position?
What is the voltage at the starter on the black cable during an attempted start? Same question for the purple wire at the starter?
What is it doing while the ignition is in the start position? Is the starter turning, making any noise, starter gear slamming against the flywheel, etc.?

The starter engages and pushes the bendix out, then it seems to just bounce off the flex plate. Had to mess with it a couple hours today.
As for Voltages, I don't know.. My Multimeter took a crap

The cover with the hole that the starter slides into? Yes.
I can only think of three spots where voltage would be an issue. Low battery, starter power wire and the relay wire. I'll see if I can get my hands on a voltage reader.

You really need to see what your voltages are doing. As I said in a previous post:
What is the battery voltage at rest and what is it with the ignition key in the start position?
What is the voltage at the starter on the black cable during an attempted start? Same question for the purple wire at the starter?
If the inspection plate allows access to the mated starter gear and flywheel the you shim to 20-60 thou clearance between the top of a starter gear tooth and the valley of the corresponding flywheel gear. You can use a piece of wire or paperclip of at least 0.020" diameter.
Oh and BTW, it already is a blaze(r).
