Rough Idle

Lately my 2001 blazer started sounding very different upon start up. I thought my starter was letting go but it works great. It turns and turns sometimes then starts but when its about to finally start it sounds like its trying to turn a broken rod of some sort. Sounds horrible. It also idles rough at stops lights to a point where i need to hold my brake and press the gas a bit just to get it to turn a bit faster as it sounds great then. If i do not do that, it idles rough and the pressure gauge moves a bit along with my RPM. it also hit and i feel it at my feet while idleing. To me it sounds like something going very bad in the engine but when i'm driving.... its prefect?? Hard on gas as usual or more than my other blazer but i'm not sure if thats even related??? is my engine dying?

I just recently bought my 94 full size blazer, and it had a rough idle and rough start. It would usually run fine, but when I came up to stops it would idle really rough to the point that I was doing like you, and giving it a little gas or throwing it in neutral until the light turned green. Did a little research and tinking around, and decided to replace the EGR valve and replace all my filters. My EGR valve was stuck open. I went and bought a brand new one for about $60 with the gasket. Replaced the old one with the new and cleaned everything up and filters, and after one start up and a drive around the block, and it was all good. no more rough idle or rough start. Maybe locate your EGR valve and see if it is really corroded, or check if it has any air leaks. I know some people just clean it out and it will work fine, but Id rather just put a new one in. It was a very simple repair and made a huge difference. Give it a look. Good luck!
Also, check your codes, as it might tell you where to focus your attention!

New Plugs, Wires, Rotor about 2-3 months ago. All AC DELCO. I also noticed that there is a exhaust leak somewhere near my catalic as i can see smoke coming out from underneath and from the tail pipe. Pretty cold these days up North so in the morning i can clearly see smoke coming out from under. Also put in a new catalic last summer and the other one was so blocked it was causing me to lose a whole lot of power.

if you have a rich running condition it will destroy the new CAT so you should really get the codes checked to see whats going on. If you find that the EGr valve is working and clear as I said start doing the fuel system checks. But get the codes checked first. May simplify things for you to know whats actually going on.

Will do for sure and thanks. Oddly, the last 2-3 days it has been fine? I'm still going to clean the EGR valve and put it back but i'm now thinking it might have been a bad tank of gas? I was told to fill it up with SUPER next time i gas and not regular unleaded just to clean it all out?
