I have found a 1995 2wd drive Blazer. It has a 4.3 vortec engine and the owner says he spun the main bearings. He is a volunteer firefighter and says when the engine lit, he punched it to go to a call. It runs, but knocks, he says. IF I buy this, do I need a new engine OR can the "bottom end" be repaired? AND, is there an "average" good price for an engine? Thanks!

 

Do you have mechanical experience. If so you cna find decent used motors for 400-800$ and or you may be able to pull the motor and fix the bearings without a rebuild? Either way the motor will need to be pulled and if you can't do that it will get spendy $$$$$

 

Yeah, if you can do all the work your self your best bet would be just to rebuild the motor if not you are probably looking at a pretty major repair bill.
