Default tranny cooler mounting question.

My tranny cooler came with everything needed to mount it straight to the radiator. (I.E. these little zip tie type things that you just press through the radiator and slide the locking peices on the other side. My question is will mounting it up against the radiator cause cooling problems elsewhere?

It should not hinder cooling. I have mounted several this way. I like to keep them close to make sure that air is forced (pulled) through the cooler at slow speeds where the engine fan does the work. I only use the tie strap things when I cannot fabricate other mounting hardware though. Reason being, if I have to pull the radiator for any reason, I would have to cut the straps..

ok sounds good. Heres my next question. Ive tried searching (maybe not hard enough?) but why is overcooling tranny fluid bad other than hindering MPGs? sorry for sounding like a newb but Im just trying to figure out if I need to buy a gauge or not(really DONT want to because I dont want and extra gauge sticking out).

There is a temperature sensor in the oil pan. If the fluid is not above a certain temperature, the PCM will keep the torque converter clutch unlocked to warm up the fluid faster. This will cause the vehicle to run higher RPMs to do the same speed as if the TCC were locked. Also, with newer vehicles, the TCC is capable of variable lockup. As the TCC wears, it can slip more and ultimately fail.

So, I noticed in a previous thread that the fluid needs to be around 120*ish to keep the PCM happy and converter clutch locked in correct? So I guess I need to go buy a gauge before I install. Where should the temp unit be installed? The return side of the cooler?

I would put it in the pan, but in the return line would work as well.

I run a B&M Super Cooler ( 11"x7.5"x3/4") on our 1997 Blazer 4x4 & I don't have a gauge & have NO trouble with cooling too much.
