tranny swap

This will sound crazy but i want to swap my custom 84 K5 5 speed manual to a 700R4 auto.....tranny, torque converter, drive shaft....is the transfer case the same? I realize its involved but if im going to use the truck i need to do it....would appeciate any advice. thanks

Can you post a picture of that round tag? Chances are, that transfer case will be fine with the 700.

No big deal if you can't post a pic, but the tag should have three digit number (with letters attached) like 241, 208, etc. Might be NP241C or something like that.
I think the problem you're going to encounter is that your current transmission output is 32-spline and the 700R4 is 27-spline.

You'll have to change the transfer case input to a 27-spline and get the right adapter for the 700R4, but both parts are relatively inexpensive and readily available.
You're also going to need to provide for operation of the TV cable (throttle linkage) and do something for a shifter if you don't already have an auto column.
Your crossmember may have to be moved or modified, and I don't know how the driveshaft lengths will work out, but all said, it's a pretty easy swap
