Default Trans Code

I'm having trouble finding the transmission code for my 2nd gen 2wd 99 blazer. Also which transmission does GM make that is a step up from this one? Does anyone know? Thanks in advanced everyone

What transmission code are you talking about.

And what do you mean by 'step up'? Stronger? The 4L60E can handle a lot when rebuilt with stronger aftermarket parts.

That code you just stated. I meant what model I guess you could say. Well I have a chance at putting in a 6.2 diesel in mine. I got a new truck so this is my play one now. I've met a guy with the same diesel engine in 93 blazer and it had the 6.2 diesel transmission that would normally come with it. Its an early 90's set up but not sure of the exact year yet. Thanks for the reply

like kyle said, 4l60e is the tranny you have, the step up is a 4l80e

Well then... Information always helps!

The TH400 was behind most of the early diesels. The 4L80E is the overdrive version of the TH400, however it is electronically controlled. I assume that you will be stripping out a lot of the wiring/computer stuff so you will need to get a stand alone controller for the 4L80E if you go that route.

Yah it's going to be a fun little project. Actually big project I'll say haha. The guy I know has the same blazer as me and has a 6.2 in it with the transmission and claims he gets 27pg on the highway do u think that is true? Just figured I'd ask, im not knowledgeable on diesels. I'm going to take this one slow but I will post pictures of it. Ill be starting it after Christmas. I'm getting on the researching done now and everything that I will need so all I have to do is install it. Should be insane. My goal is to confuse people when I'm at the diesel pump pumping diesel in haha
