Default trans problems, maybe torque converter?

I own a 1990 chevy blazer with a turbo 400 trannny. when i shift it into gear, you can hear it go into gear but my truck will barely move. so i started tearing it apart and i unbolted the torque converter from the flywheel and i spun it around and i could hear pieces of god knows what rattling around inside. i wonder if my transmission problems could be linked to the torque converter.
Any suggestions?

It is very possible. Do you have the torque converter out? If so, are you sure that the noise is in the torque converter itself and not the front pump on the transmission?

no i dont. i was thinkin i could just slide the tranny back and throw a new torque converter in because i have one layin around. that would save me some time. but im pretty sure the noise is coming from the torque converter.

my '85 w/ a 700r4 had something similar happen. i am fixin it now. mine was the stator in the torque converter broke. so it would grab a little power every once in a while but not enough to move the truck. when i yanked my torque conv out it made rattlin noises like you said (the broken stator peices). so i would say yank it out and make sure its the torq conv makin the noise and replace accordingly. hope you get it fixed soon bra :-)
