Did you have trouble getting the pan off at the back above cross member? Breaking a shift solenoid is very common on these.

it was a little tricky... as you have to let the front down first to drain some of the atf... so if one is bad it may just be stuck in a high gear, like taking off in4th on a manual trans???

Sounds like the 3-4 pack is slipping, which would mean a rebuild. A lot of times on older vehicles trans fluid changes are not recomended

I would definitely check into the broken shift solenoid. Much better than going straight into a rebuild and it makes sense - what else could you do during a service that would cause your problems? I haven't known Transman to be wrong yet. I'm no transmission man myself, but I am able to recognize that he knows his stuff!

Thanks for the kind words Lesmyer! I just like to share my knowledge so people will avoid the pitfalls of just throwing time and money at issues I have come across in my many years. Also I have been wrong many times Just mark it up to a lesson from the school of hard knocks and learn from it. Some cost money some not. And be sure to not do it again. I have learned more from mistakes than any book could teach.

Also double check that you follow the owner's manual to the letter when it comes to checking the ATF level. This procedure is not at all like most other vehicles including older GM stuff. Not following this procedure will almost always result in an 'over-filled' condition that can effect shifting and/or reverse operation. You probably already know this, but I want to mention it just in case.

Chirping in here too - I agree with FMB42 on overfilling. That could cause a lot of damage! I'm having the same issues, but I don't think they are transmission related (had the fluid changed and the tranny inspected and they found zero issues). What was causing my acceleration slip issue was my dirty fuel filter. I'd read into that as well because sometimes other issues that seem like tranny issues are not and are related to other things going on mechanically. Just my 2 cents.
