Im changing my transmission filter for the first time and after I drop the pan and pull the filter out theres a plastic or rubber seal that needs to come out. Then the new one needs to be put back in. My question is how do I get this plastic/rubber seal out of the trans without messing anything up? Any tips tricks or special tools I will need? let me know guys thanks. Also this is a 99 s10 blazer 4x4 if that helps.

I just did this a couple of weeks ago on my 2000 Jimmy. I'm no means an expert, but my advice is to leave the old one in. As long as it still makes a good seal with the filter, that is. I tried using a screwdriver like the Haynes manual says. No luck. I then went to Advance Auto and bought a hook tool, this did not work either. By this time, the seal was ruined from all my attempts to get it out. So I ended up using a small screwdriver and a hammer, which was a very scary thing to do on something as delicate as the transmission. Those seals are in there TIGHT, at least mine was anyway. I don't see how you can get it out cleanly. If someone else thinks leaving the old seal in is bad advice, please correct me.
e: By the way, the seal is a combination of metal/rubber. If you still really want to replace the seal, I have a link to a howto where someone used a small file to get the thing out. I'm not sure I'd want to get any metal shavings in the transmission, though.

rent a slide hammer from the auto parts store. They'll have a specific tool that the slide hammer will mate to just for this job and it will make short work of it.

Hi
If the seal is in good shape use it,clean it out with a paper rag, don't use a cloth rag the lint left behind is not a good thing. just lube up the new filter neck with clean fluid.
