Default transmission fitment. 2wd or 4wd?

if i simply remove the tail housing of a 4l60e from a 98 3.8 camaro, will it bolt up to my 4.3 and transfer case? i think the bellhousing is different, can that be swapped? im going to have an extra trans from my gf's car and mine is slowly going out.

Not hardly. You need to swap tail shaft; something that is only accomplished by first stripping the guts out of the transmission. The tail shaft comes out through the front of the transmission.

local trans shop charged me $100 to do this. but of course they pull the "while we were in there we noticed blah blah blah"

and if your gonna go that route its almost worth it to just rebuild the whole thing and be done with it
