Default transmission or sensor?

hi, im new to this forum so if im posting in the wrong place just tell me.
i bought my first blazer and love it and this site has been more than helpful, so thanks.

my problem: the rpms rev up high before it will change gear (sometimes it doesnt change gear at all) but if i pull over and cut the truck off then cut the truck back on it will change gears perfectly. (i cut the truck off then immediately cut it back on)

someone told me to change the tps so i did. it still does the same thing and now the 'service engine soon' light is on. i dont know if there is a proper way to replace the tps so maybe i did it wrong or if its not the tps at all.

its a 1998 chevy blazer LS v6 4.3L it has 250,000 miles. the transmission was rebuilt at 150,000 miles

thank you. ill take any advice you guys have. thanks

I think you should go to AZ or the like and have the code(s) pulled
