Default Transmission swap

Ok so my 4wd tranny is blown for now but I got a 2wd one of my friends suggested that you could change the tail cone and jus line the transfer case back up with it then I wouldnt have to worry about the drive shaft or anything can you do this if so how?

Thanks zach

in theory that sounds like a great idea but it hardly ever works that way. theres so many different length out put shafts for each transmission its rarely ever just unbolt the tailshaft and see if itll bolt on. if you have both transmissions out side by side, take off the tail cone and see if its the same but i know on fullsize trucks its not that easy. what you could do if you know that 2 wd trans is good, bring it to a transmission shop along with the 4wd trans and tell them to swap tailshafts, ive done that before, cost 100 bucks
