What is better 4 Auto or 2 Hi?
I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy Diamond Edition and it has the 4 wheel Auto, plus 2 Hi, 4 Hi, 4 Lo. I normally drive in 2 Hi and occasionally drive in 4 Auto if it is raining. I am not sure what mode is the best to keep everthing functioning correctly. What is the consensus for everyday driving?

2WD HI for regular driving. This allows the two rear tires to receive power. 4WD HI, is used for driving on slippery or loose surfaces. This position locks both the front and rear drive shafts together splitting engine power equally between all four tires. Neutral, disengages both drive shafts from the transfer case allowing the car to roll freely; this is used for towing behind another vehicle, for example. 4WD LO is used for situations when higher torque is needed.

I use 4 auto in the rain and slippery situations. what the auto means is when your rear tires are spinning without slipping it is in 2wd. once it senses the rear tires are spinning the 4wd will kick in for added traction. 4 auto isn't that good for 4 wheeling since there is a delay for when the 4wd kicks in but its good for rain and small amounts of snow and ice. in deep snow and ice use 4 hi so then you have the 4wd traction all the time
