ive seen this a few times sounds like a timming issue. it could be low cylinder compression, valve clearences not adjusted properly, dirty/ clogged fuel injectors, wet or damaged ignition componets, worn or incorrect spark plug gaps. not exactly sure, this problem can sometimes be a pain in the @%$! to diagnose. are you certain the starter is cranking the engine over. if not check the to see if the starter pinoin is sticking or if the starter flywheel/ driveplate is missing anyteeth.
GOOD LUCK

hey my 96 blazer wont start at all i smell gas its got good spark but it never starts up, the only thing i noticed is that when i crank it wont start but when i let go of the key an put it on the off position like to remove the key it sparks again anybody has an idea??? i replaced the coil, icm, crankshaft sensor and camshaft and i scanned the ecm and no codes... any ideas??????
Makes it sound like the ignition switch in the column is the culprit. This can cause all sorts of weird things to happen.
