496 BBC Build/Install Thread
Hey everyone! I have a 1977 K5 with a few healthy mods on it already. It has a Voodoo Lunati Cam, ported camel hump heads, Victor Jr Intake, Holly 850 Carb, 4" Rough Country Lift (looks like 6"). It runs very well as is.
Alas, I have found myself needing more power and wanting to dip into some sand drag racing. I am building a 496 BBC that sould have around 10.5:1 compression and a 200 shot of spray. I will be using this thread as a way to share my progress.
However, I have the stock TH350 with Dana 44 and coporate 12 bolt still. I honestly believe the previous owner slapped in 2.76 gears to help with fuel mileage. I say this because a year ago I did run it at the sand drags and did not even come close to hitting 3rd gear at the 300' mark.
So heres where I need some advice:

- TH350 - I need to beef it up to handle the new power. What all needs to be redone? Clutches? I have a shift kit installed already.
- Dana 44 - I am getting some new 30 spline axles and b eefed up U joints. What gears do I need? 4.10's with LSD?
- Corporate 12 bolt - 30 spline axles beefed up ujoints and 4.10's with LSD?
- NP203 TC - I think I will be modding this to be part time 2 wheel drive. I will need new hubs right? What else do I need?
- Torque Converter - how big?
- Traction Bar
- Wheels/Tires - I currently have 15x8" aluminum rims with 33x12.5" BFG All Terrains. Should I go wider with TSL Thornbirds?
- Suspension - I want to go coil over but that is super pricey. Should I go with a 2" lift instead of the 4"? I need to lower it to make it more stable at high speeds right?
- Steering - new hydro steering box?
- Roll Cage
- 5 Point Harness
- What else do I need to mod?
