It's California compliant for my '88, but I'll have to check if it's the right one for your '86. I just need enough to cover the shipping and a 12-pack for my trouble.

Let me figure out if it's the right one.

So, yours calls for an 80940 and mine is an 80942. I'm not sure what the difference is, but it probably won't work for you if they check the part number when they do the smog check (which they're supposed to do). Sorry.

what brand. let me do a little research and see if it will work. truck is a 86/5.7 but let me find out what the difference is

it looks like they are really close. your is a 1/2 shorter and uses 3" in and out where mine is 2.5 in and out

It's up to you if you want to try it. I just don't want you to fail because it's not "correct".

I ended up finding one on ebay for 60 bucks brand new that is on the list. now to address the carb situation

thomp, assuming you kept the 2nd filter intact, and replaced with a newer one from eBay? Or did you end up removing completely, and opt for just the air filter?

I have an '86 K5 and I'm bouncing CA emissions with HC at 158 (max is 120) and CO % at 1.60 (max is .74) at 15mph, yet passing all tests at 25mph.
