Diff swap, carrier and pinion

Diff swap, carrier and pinion
87 Blazer 6.2L Diesel
8.5 inch 10 bolt.
Hey guys, I just opened up my diff and all the gears are done, all worn out, and the carrier is cracked.
So I found some nice used gear in great shape 3.42s, and a posi 10 bolt carrier.
Now my question is, this carrier is out of a car I believe but they had the same axles, now I'm a little confused about the spine count, 28 and 30, not sure what my truck has, have to count it but from my understanding the cars mostly had 28 count?
And the spine count is the gear on the drive shafts in the axle right?
Thanks for the help.

yeah the splines will be those little teeth that are on the axle shaft that slide into the carrier. i cant even remember what splines the k5 has, its been a while since ive had any issues with my rear axle

For an '87, both front & rear axles are GM Corporate 10-bolt 8.5-in, 1.28 Axle Dia. with 28 Spline. You want to count the splines on the axle shafts themselves.
