Default 4 wheel drive

I have a 4 wd and the switch is stuck in the 4 hi position. when i push the 4lo the 4hi is still on and the 4lo light blinks. but when i press the 2hi it clicks like it is changing but it does not stay lit, it just blinks . i know nothing about how the 4wd works my blazer did not come with manuel. so if some one could tell me how it all works and how to get it out of 4hi and back into 2hi. and then also how to get it into 4lo.

have you tried changing it while moving? or have you just been trying it siting still? The reason I ask is sometimes i've noticed you need some movement (even just a crawl) to get it to change (technically you can change from 4hi to 2hi or vice versa at up to something like 70mph(not sure of the exact speed in the manual, but it is high). The blinking light means it is attempting to change. If it goes back it means it failed. As far as 4lo I put it in drive but never go more than 1mph or so (just a tiny bit of roll), then push the 4lo button.

Someone else should be chiming in before long here, but that should give you somewhere to start.

do a search in 2nd gen tech. Sounds like a vaccum switch or maybe the encoder motor...

Once it's blinking, try going in reverse at a crawl. the gears are engineered to mesh well when going in reverse, give it a shot and let me know.
