well regardless of how its gotta be done in CA, i'm not building it to be a CA legal blazer. and hell by the time i have a 350 in it running that dirty, it'll be strictly a track car. as soon as i start dipping into the 10- mpg ratings

Just to shove my 2 cents in, I like the 400 sb compaired to the 350. I had a 400 sb back when I have my monte carlo and yeah when I first bought the engine it over heated a lot. Come to find out I had to take it in and get the water ports drilled out for more water to flow. after that and it being bored out, cam and crank, it never ran over 192 degrees. But thats me.

Lol. Shove away [sm=tongue.gif]. Thats what this post was made for, to get as many ppl's opinions as possible.

So far from what close friends have told me tho, as long as the timing don't come outa wack then water jacket issues wont arrise. Not sure how factual that is, only 2 of them actually know what their talking about lol.

Earlier today though a friend of mine at Advanced Auto told me that he could try an hook me up with his buddy's old 350 out of an 80's model camaro for $300 or $400 bucks. Its a 2-bolt main (he thinks) and has a little under 40k on a rebuild w/new bottom end and 3.75in stroke and almost 120k miles total. Still under debate though, havnt talked to the guy yet or looked at the engine

That sounds like a fair deals but keep in mind also, I like to say when looking for an engine it is coming out of a Camaro so it might have been ran the sh*t out of if you know what im talking about. In what ever you pick I hope everything turns out ok and keep everyone posted. Ill be looking for a 350 or 400 to put in mine in the next year. Good Luck.

Ya, What your sayin is more or less exactly what happened. My buddy said the guy blew a head, so rather than just replacing the heads and gaskets he did a full rebuild. I went and took a look at it today and it sounds great! No abnormal noises, aside from the f-ed up a/c compressor. All in all it'll all boil down to $300 bucks worth of engine if I DO have problems. You get what you pay for right?
