Default Busted mirror

Hi all-
Yesterday while shoveling snow (almost a daily event in the northeast lately), I accidentally backed into the side mirror (passenger) on my '97 s10 and it snapped right off. The plastic triangle shaped base was hanging by the wires. I duct taped it immediately since I had an appointment, so I did not get a look at exactly what broke. Since it is currently about 10 degrees out and there is no relief in sight, weather-wise, I was hoping someone can give me a heads up as to what I'm gonna need when I do the repair. It broke so easily that I think it may be a glue joint, or maybe was already cracked. Is it a bracket or part of the trim itself that failed? If I have to undo it to find out it will be a double pain cause I will have to retape to run for a part if I need one.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

They are a common item to break. Best to just replace the entire assembly. You only have to partially remove the interior door panel and then it's three nuts to remove the entire mirror assy. I have a few spares but not sure if I have any power mirrors. Post a pic of what style you have.

This may be too late to help but .... I had a similar problem on the driver's side on my '98 LT but, since I was not at home, I had to cut the wires. I had the entire black triangle-shaped piece - unbroken - but "separated" from the rest of the assembly. Seems this was not the first time it broke as there was lots of super glue. The back side of the black triangle originally contained 3 plastic "bolts" that are meant to fasten to the three nuts rexmburns spoke of. Since my bolts were a broken, glue-y mess, I chose to drill them out. I replaced them with metal bolts and nuts and said "who cars if I can see the bolt heads on the outside?" Just painted them black. I could only replace two of the bolts this way because the head of the third would have popped up in an inaccessible spot outside.

Just gonna leave this here, when you do the mirror swap, youll need an extension and a deep socket just to make your life easier!
