Default Couple questions about the GM Tech II

So computer threw a crankshaft code. After searching about it, took the crankshaft position sensor out to examine it, it has looked like it was getting hit and had scratch marks on it. I put a shim on it and took it to a shop to do a relearn - mechanic said on the tech 2 everything was within specs so first question is does it actually show you the crankshaft position sensor placement on the scanner or something? Never heard about it actually showing you. He also said the scanner showed valve damage within the motor, can it also really show that? He said he could print out a written report for 99 bucks other than that, it was free because he did not do the relearn. And yes, I know I have to get that relearn done Thanks guys!

No scanner will show placement of the CKP sensor. They can not show valve damage either. A cylinder leakage test or a visual inspection is necessary for that. Might want to have them check/adjust camshaft retard when they do the CKP relearn. Needs to be zero degrees, plus or minus 2 degrees. It will not set a DTC unless it's off by more than ~25 degrees, so unless they specifically checked it, and know what it should be, it could be off substantially, and you're relying on the technicians knowledge and product familiarity to find it.

Thanks for the reply captain. I thought he was talking non sense about it showed valve damage and it's within specs. Supposedly the cam retard was good as well. But I'm thinking I'm just going to take it to the dealership to get it done. Might have better luck.
