How many miles does your original Vortec V6 have?
#271
I've got a 2dr, 5 speed, 2wd, 2002. With 204,500. It was bought in 03' with 13k on it... The First "repair" that I had done was the sending unit (took them 5 times to get it right, but that's another story) and I had 172,000 on it then and changed out my original shocks at 195,000. Since then, it's been a downward spiral on repairs for all sorts of things, ie: calipers, windshield wiper motor, rear main seal, heater core, radiator, door hinge, pretty much the entire front end and as of a week ago, It's in DIRE need of a rear end, But the Vortex 4.3L V6 Like a Rock!!!

Just over 552,000 so far! 1999 2-dr Blazer LS
Just over 552,000. Blew a head gasket at 301,000... and I keep up the maintenance. Paid 17,000 for my Blazer in July of 2000, 1-yr used from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Coming-up on 22 years of driving this rig. Total repairs, maintenance and tires = $24,504, so far... just under 6-cents per mile... am still getting better than 20 mpg, needs a qt of oil every 5000 miles, or so... no drips on the foor. ... Happy with it.
Mostly ALL easy cruisin' freeway miles... used to get to have to drive between Oxnard and Santa Barbara for work... and then later Oxnard to Van Nuys on the 101/134.

Nice, Eric! That's impressive - if I'm remembering right that's highest miles I've heard of so far.
We can never get that kind of mileage out here in MA. The drivelines will, minus the transmission, but not the rest of the vehicle. If the road salt doesn't completely destroy it in 12 years flat, the roads will. Very difficult to keep a vehicle going up here that long without A PILE of work. You have to spray the undercarriage down heavy with oil every fall, and do constant front end and suspension repairs. Most people give up. Since I'm an auto & small engine mechanic with a lift, I can keep 'em going just about forever, but the majority of people won't spend the labor money to do so, and just go out and buy new.
Love how the older cars in the background last forever out there. I'll be buying my next "new" truck from that area.

I feel that I owe the longevity to a couple of factors.... A.) This little Blazer is the smallest of the Chevy trucks but uses the same components as the heavier trucks... B-) LOTS of freeway miles; just smooth cruisin'. Like now my daughter lives about 700 miles away and my son 480 miles away... and I live just 120 miles from Las Vegas... a cruise in either direction racks-up the miles! C.) Most important: I keep a spreadsheet into the future showing all of the regular maintenance items so that I can do the maintenance when the time arrives on that sheet. Right now that sheet is extended out to 550,000 miles! Oil changes, serpentine belt, spark plugs, air filter, radiator hoses, transmission fluid/filter change every 40k... and more is on that chart. I always feel guilty about an item until I get it done.

Still a better track record than a lot of newer vehicles. Most are barely making it 100k these days without major engine repairs. My '07 Silverado is a great example - low oil pressure at 117k miles. Started burning oil at 50k.
