How many miles does your original Vortec V6 have?
My 96 Blazer has 250,000 miles on it. I've owned it since new and simply changed the oil with conventional Texaco Havoline 5W30 every 3,000 miles (religiously). I think the synthetic oils are a waste of money.....just change the oil yourself every 3,000 miles and the engine will last.
And keep a close eye on those oil cooler lines....that will blow an engine fast. I'm on my 4th set.

Since I'm here, the '00 Vortec I threw in our '89 S10 I estimate to have around 155k miles on it now. Had about 146k when I did the swap.
Retired a 96 with 256K only due to rear frame rust, did the LIM@ 220K,sold the unit for parts over 2 years ago and heard recently it was transplanted to another second series Blazer and is still running after an additional 45-50K put on it-amazing!
2000 with 175,000 miles. Second transmission, second transfer case, third transfer case motor...2nd fuel pump, working on a third...2nd rear axle..hmmm...sooner or later, intake gasket...at least 18 door pins....3rd transfer case switch...the spare tire sits in the back as the tire mount died a long time ago....thank goodness I married a mechanic or the dirty girl would have been sold 3 years ago when the transfer case took a poop. Looking for a diesel station wagon to replace the dirty girl.
