Looking at a Blazer
Hey everyone, new to the board here...
I'm going Sunday to look at a 98 Blazer 4x4. Just wondering if there is any common problems or things i should look for with the 98. Its got about 130,000miles. Any stuff about to go wrong i should look at or stuff that should've been replaced?
The guy is asking $2500, sounds like a good deal so far.
Thanks!

Nothing really that isn't common among pretty much all Blazer's...
Get an inpsection done by a mechanic you trust, to help with possible big maintenance issues that the seller might be covering up.

The Blazer is a tough truck and will run forever. However, like many GM vehicles, there are things that happen we don't like.
Blazers like to eat front end parts so have the suspension checked out. Until I get another engine, front suspension parts has been the biggest expenditure on mine so far.
Check for rust underneath.
Make sure 4WD works, 4hi and 4lo if equipped.
Make sure A/C blows hot and cold air.
Tranny cooler lines have been a common issue on 1st and 2nd gens, happened to all the Blazers i've owned.
Intake manifold gasket. Common problem on just about any GM using DEXCOOL. The gasket is made of a weak material and DEXCOOL makes it deteriorate more quickly, at least this is what I understand. This is basically the reason why I need another engine in my Blazer now.Find out when theprevious owner did it.It lasts roughly from 80k-100k miles.
I'm sure other members will post more things to look for.

alright thanks for all the help, i'll have a nice list to take out to ask him about when i go and look at it. And i'm hoping he'll let me take it for a few hours so my mechanic can have a good look at it.
