Default Newbie with Toad/Dinghy Towing Question

Hello,

I own a 1994 S-10 Blazer Tahoe LT (4-door 4x4 with electronic transfer switch) purchased new and am happy to say is still running. Has anyone ever used this model as a "toad" either driving four wheel wheels down or otherwise? Any information would be greatly appreciated. We're getting conflicting information from Chevy, Remco, transmission specialists, mechanics, etc. Planning to tow behind diesel pusher motorhome for August vacation. Thanks in advance!

I definitely would not do it without some precautionary measures being taken.

Disconnect the rear driveshaft, tape up the universal cups, and strap the driveshaft securely to the undercarriage of the truck. Or remove the driveshaft completely and get a tail shaft plug for the back of the transfer case. This is due to the lack of lubrication in the transfer case when it is in neutral. For extended periods of towing, you will trash the bearings in the transfer case.

My dad used to have a tow behind hitch for his K2500. Its on its 2nd transfer case rebuild now and that was just with short towing (less than 20 miles each time - only used on the farm truck for towing behind our fertilizer/insecticide/herbicide 10-wheeler from farm to farm). In just under 2 years of this, the transfer case bearings were shot and needed rebuilding. Two years later, rebuilt it again.

Thanks for the response Kyle. My electronic transfer case does not have a neutral position. It's 4 Hi or 4 Lo or Off. Hubby is planning to disconnect drive shaft but my concern is the lack of a neutral position in the transfer case will cause transmission damage.
