odometer and trip stopped spining
Ok so I have a 95 Blazer ls 4x4 with 144k on it and my odometer and trip stopped turning. I have pulled the cluster out cleaned it sprayed air into the odometer and it turned about a half mile and stopped again, I then used a screw and wiggled the tenth of a mile number and it turned again for about .3 miles and stopped again. I figured I am not going to keep wiggling it with a screw everytime it stops so I gave up, once in a while it will turn .1 miles and then stop again. Is there something I need to do to fix that or do I need to buy a whole new cluster. Thanks

In case you have not noticed, it is NOT a digital cluster or odometer.

Ours just busted too on the '89. Just confirms my suspicion that the mileage was rewound. Typical eBay purchase ...
Normally they never fail. If they do, there's a good chance it's been tampered with at some point in it's life. Fixing it depends on a million things - I'd have to see it. All you can do is look it over & see if anything is fixable. If not, toss it & buy another cluster. But before doing that make sure the cable is spinning.

as far as I know I dont have a cable. My cluster just plugs in to my dash.

Been a while since I've had mine out. Thought the cable came up to the back of that plug ...... not sure there. My El Camino & Grand Marquis are direct cable - thought they all were up until the late 90's.
Either way, still got to take that cluster apart & figure out what happened inside.

If you pull off the stepper motor assy, chances are you will find the gear in the odo that stepper drives is trashed.
Tbird had the problem.. not if it would fail but when, depends a lot on the climate location.
I did a brief search for fixes, didnt find any.

I found one on ebay for 5 bucks and has pretty much the same mileage I have on my truck now. Since it crapped out I was keeping track with my GPS and the one I am getting has about 1000 more miles on it then I show I should have so give or take I am good lol
