If you didn't figure it out and for future reference. Uhauls do not use electric brakes so no need for a brake controller. They have surge brakes that are hydraulic and work much like a car. (basically)
Good to hear you made it well. I used to rent from them even now an again. I find it somewhat funny that so many people have problems with stuff being "unsafe" I rented that same trailer to pull a 84 Dodge 1/2 ton, 68 Dodge 1/2 ton, and a 49 Ford 1/2 ton. All 3 pulled by my 96 Silverado 1/2 ton. Never had a problem getting the trailer.
To dollies aren't bad, just depends on how you want to tow. A full trailer is better however.

Long time ago I towed my 77 impala with tow dolly behind a 25/6ft truck cross country.It wasnt fun as it swerved all over the Hyway.Lesson learned flat bed trailer is best for cross country.Tow dollys good for local tow jobs.
